- The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has approved Nishat Hotels and Properties Limited’s acquisition of 100% shareholding in Nishat Hospitality (Private) Limited. The transaction, reviewed under Section 11 of the Competition Act, found no significant reduction in competition or creation of market dominance. Nishat Hotels and Properties, which operates in Lahore’s real estate and hospitality sectors, previously held a 10% market share, while Nishat Hospitality had 4%. Post-acquisition, the combined entity will hold a 14% share of Lahore’s hospitality market. The CCP determined that the merger would not raise competition concerns, granting approval for the transaction.
- Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC), a subsidiary of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, is exiting Pakistan’s oil and gas sector, citing issues like growing circular debt and prolonged policy delays. KUFPEC is selling assets worth nearly $60 million in multiple blocks across Pakistan to Pakistan Exploration (PEL). The circular debt in the gas sector, now at Rs2,700 billion, and a 12-month delay in E&P policy amendments were key factors in KUFPEC's decision. Despite previous commitments in 2023 to enhance its portfolio with Pakistani companies, KUFPEC is shifting its focus to other countries. PEL, which has acquired KUFPEC’s assets in Dadu, Kirthar, Tajjal, and Qadirpur concessions, sees this as a strategic move to strengthen its position in Pakistan's energy sector.

The minister directed Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Economic Zones Development and Management Company (KPEZDMC) to confirm land prices in accordance with the company's requests, which included discounted rates. He also addressed concerns over power tariffs, ensuring the zone receives power at regular consumer rates, and called for a consumption survey in FATA and PATA to avoid overestimation. The minister emphasized involving Peshawar Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the decision-making process.
