Pakistan Economy: Dec 2024 Current Accounts Surplus recorded at US$582mn 1HFY25 Surplus at US$1.21bn – By Topline Research

- Pakistan has reported Current Account Surplus of US$582mn in Dec 2024 compared to surplus of US$684mn recorded in Nov 2024. This takes 1HFY25 surplus to US$1.21bn vs. deficit of US$1.397bn.
- Earlier current account surplus in 5MFY25 was US$944mn, and in 1HFY25 the surplus has reached to US$1.21bn, increasing by US$266mn vs. Dec 2024 reported surplus figure of US$582mn. This suggest, data for previous months is adjusted to the extent of US$316mn. To highlight, central bank has revised current account numbers of Jul, Aug, Sep, and Nov 2024. The large part of the revision is made in services deficit.
- Dec 2024 posted surplus was higher than expectations as trade deficit reported by SBP is 29% lower than PBS vs. historic average of 10%.
