PACRA raises FFC's long-term rating to AAA

FFC Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited
Rs. 557.16 +0.62%

August 03, 2026 (MLN): Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (PSX:FFC) saw its entity ratings upgraded by the Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA), with the long-term rating raised to AAA from AA+, while the short-term rating was maintained at A1+ with a stable outlook.

The upgrade reflects FFC's consolidated leadership in Pakistan's fertilizer sector, underpinned by a strengthened and increasingly diversified investment and financial profile.

The merger of Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited (FFBL), including the Bin Qasim Plant, into FFC expanded the company's production capacity, cementing its position across the urea, DAP and wider fertilizer segments, while its equity stake in Agritech Limited further reinforced its market standing.

The expanded capacity has reduced the sector's reliance on imported fertilizers, driving a marked rise in FFC's turnover during CY25, with the momentum carrying into 1HCY26.

The company's market leadership is backed by favourable sector fundamentals, including high entry barriers and priority allocation of feedstock gas to fertilizer manufacturers.

Although declining reserves at legacy gas fields continue to pressure wellhead gas availability, recent discoveries by exploration and production firms, along with the industry-wide Pressure Enhancement Facilities (PEF) Project, are expected to bolster the long-term security of feedstock supply.

Beyond its core manufacturing operations, FFC holds a substantial, prudently managed investment portfolio that materially strengthens its consolidated financial resilience.

The FFBL integration further enlarged this portfolio, which now spans strategic and liquid investments across financial services, energy and food businesses.

A key holding is its stake in Askari Bank Limited, a systemically important, AAA-rated institution, giving FFC meaningful scale and diversification into financial services.

Its energy portfolio, comprising renewable and thermal power projects, generates a steady stream of dividend income, while the food business continues to expand and is expected to meaningfully contribute to earnings over the medium term.

The company's recent entry into aviation offers a further avenue for long-term diversification.

Investment returns consistently exceed financing costs, positioning FFC as a net investor on a consolidated basis with a stable, predictable dividend income stream and enhanced financial flexibility.

This diversified base, combined with stronger offtakes that lifted FFC's urea and DAP market shares to 56% and 66%, respectively, in 1HCY26, and sustained cost discipline, has supported robust profitability and a growing equity base.

The capital structure remains conservative, with manageable leverage, ample liquidity and comfortable debt-servicing capacity.

While the balance sheet carries a Gas Infrastructure Development Cess (GIDC)-related liability, this is largely offset by a corresponding government receivable, limiting net exposure.

These fundamentals are further supported by strong governance, an experienced and diverse board, and a seasoned management team, with sponsor ownership held by Fauji Foundation, whose institutional shareholding ensures continuity of strategic direction.

Going forward, FFC aims to sustain high-capacity utilization across its urea and DAP operations while maintaining a prudent financial and operational risk profile through disciplined capital allocation.

The ratings remain contingent on the company preserving its market leadership, maintaining a strong financial profile through prudent leverage and liquidity management, managing feedstock risks diligently, and sustaining a stable stream of dividend income.
