December 23, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PSX:PPL) has made
an unconventional gas discovery from the Lower Alabaster Formation at its
exploratory well LAL X-1, located in District Kashmore within the Kandhkot
Development and Production Lease (D&PL) area of Sindh Province.
The discovery marks the first successful hydrocarbon find
from the Lower Alabaster Formation in the Kandhkot D&PL, where PPL holds a
100% working interest as the operator, according to the company's statement
issued today.
The LAL X-1 well was spudded on June 30, 2025, and drilled
to a total depth of 1,408 metres MD BKB. The well was designed to evaluate the
hydrocarbon potential of interbedded limestone beds within the Lower Alabaster
Formation.
During post-completion testing, the well recorded a gas flow
rate of 0.138 MMscfd against a wellhead flowing pressure of 33 psig at a
64/64-inch choke.
The results confirm the presence of hydrocarbon potential in
the Lower Alabaster Formation.
The commercial viability of the discovery will be determined
following detailed post-well analysis and the outcomes of future exploration
wells targeting the Lower Alabaster play in the area.
