PPL makes fourth consecutive gas discovery in Shah Bandar Block

July 30, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PSX:PPL), the operator of the Shah Bandar Exploration License, has made a gas/condensate discovery at its exploratory well Rahi X-1, located in District Sujawal, Sindh, marking the fourth consecutive find in the Shah Bandar Block.

PPL holds a 63% working interest in the block as operator, alongside joint venture partners MariEnergies Pakistan with 32%, and Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (SEHCL) and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with 2.5% each.

The well was drilled and tested using indigenous expertise, the company’s on PSX revealed today.

According to the disclosure, the well was spudded on June 17, 2026, and drilled to a measured depth of 2,612 meters to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sand of the Lower Goru Formation.

A hydrocarbon-bearing zone was identified based on drilling results and acquired wireline log data.

During testing, the well flowed at the following rates:

The company said preliminary test data indicate the tight nature of the reservoir, adding that further evaluation would be required to determine the commerciality of the discovery based on geological, geophysical and engineering data gathered during drilling and testing.
