UIN Settlement Explained: How PSX Investors Can Read Delivery Data

Understand PSX UIN settlement volume, delivery percentage, unusual participation, and how to combine settlement data with price, volume and company research.

PSX trading volume shows how many shares changed hands, but UIN settlement data adds another layer: how much activity remains for settlement after positions are calculated by investor identity and symbol. KseAlert's public UIN Settlement and Accumulation dashboard helps investors compare traded volume, settlement volume, delivery percentage, delivered value, and recent trends. The benefit is better context for participation, not a guaranteed accumulation signal.

What is a UIN?

A Unique Identification Number is maintained in the NCCPL market infrastructure so activity can be associated with the relevant investor identity. The PSX Investor Awareness Guide tells customers to keep identity and contact information consistent across the account-opening, KYC, CDC, and NCCPL records and explains how investors can monitor activity connected with their UIN.

The UIN supports the trading and settlement audit trail. It does not make market activity public at the individual-investor level. KseAlert uses aggregated symbol-level settlement information for market research and does not expose a person's private UIN or account record.

Market settlement dashboard vs personal NCCPL UIS

ServicePurposeWhat an investor should use it for
KseAlert UIN settlement dashboardAggregated symbol-level trade and settlement researchScreen delivery percentage, delivery volume, delivered value, deviation, liquidity, and recent price-volume trends
NCCPL UIN Information SystemPersonal access to trading, settlement, client-code, and related records associated with the investor's UINReconcile personal activity, review linked trading accounts, and investigate an unexpected record
Broker and CDC recordsTrade confirmations, cash ledger, custody statements, and securities movementsVerify each transaction and the resulting cash and securities position

These services answer different questions. A high market-wide delivery percentage does not confirm who bought a share. A personal UIS record should not be replaced by a third-party market dashboard.

Understand the settlement fields

  • Trade volume: the total shares traded in the symbol for the session.
  • UIN settlement volume: the symbol-level volume remaining for settlement based on UIN-wise net positions.
  • Delivery percentage: settlement volume divided by traded volume, expressed as a percentage in the KseAlert dashboard.
  • Delivered value: the estimated or reported currency value associated with settlement volume, depending on the available source fields.
  • Delivery deviation: the difference between the current delivery percentage and the stock's recent average.
  • Unusual delivery volume: delivery volume materially above the stock's own recent delivery-volume baseline.

Always compare the field definitions and date with the current NCCPL source. Normal delivery varies by security, market type, liquidity, corporate event, and trading behaviour.

How studying UIN settlement can benefit an investor

  • Separate turnover from settled positions: heavy trading with low delivery can reflect more intraday churn, while stronger delivery means more activity remains for settlement.
  • Find unusual participation: a delivery percentage or volume far above the stock's own baseline can identify sessions worth investigating.
  • Test a breakout or decline: price, total volume, and delivery together provide more context than price alone.
  • Prioritize research: the screener can narrow hundreds of symbols into a smaller list for announcement, fundamental, and chart review.
  • Control liquidity risk: settlement value and volume help prevent a high percentage on tiny turnover from appearing more important than it is.

A step-by-step UIN dashboard workflow

  1. Open the KseAlert UIN settlement dashboard and confirm the latest session date.
  2. Keep the liquid-stock filter active or set a meaningful minimum volume for the type of order being considered.
  3. Sort by delivery percentage, but immediately compare delivery volume and delivered value.
  4. Check deviation from the recent delivery baseline and whether unusual delivery appears on more than one session.
  5. Expand the stock's 15-day price and volume view. Note whether price confirms, rejects, or ignores the settlement change.
  6. Open the company's stock page, announcements, financial statements, and sector comparison.
  7. Review FIPI/LIPI flows for participant and sector context, without assuming the two datasets identify the same buyer.
  8. Record the thesis, risk, and invalidation condition before considering an order.

Read common price and delivery patterns

PatternWhat it may indicateWhat it does not prove
Price rises, volume rises, and delivery stays above its baselineBroader settled participation accompanies the advanceThat institutions bought or that the price must continue rising
Price falls with high deliveryMeaningful positions are settling during weaknessAutomatic accumulation; distribution or other transfers may also be present
Total volume surges but delivery remains lowMore short-term turnover or offsetting activityThat every trader is speculative or that reversal is certain
Delivery percentage is very high on tiny volumeA large share of limited trading settledMaterial market interest; volume and value may be too small
Delivery remains elevated across several sessionsA sustained change in participation deserves investigationThe identity, information, motive, or future action of the participants

Hypothetical worked example

Assume a share normally trades one million shares per session and settles 400,000, giving an average delivery percentage near 40%. On a new session it trades three million shares and settles 2.1 million. Delivery is 70%, while delivery volume is more than five times the earlier 400,000 baseline.

That is a useful research alert because both total activity and settled volume expanded. It is not yet a buy signal. If price rose after a verified material result and the move continued with reasonable liquidity, the evidence differs from a session where price fell sharply after weak results. The direction, catalyst, valuation, sector flow, and subsequent sessions determine the interpretation.

Why high delivery is not always bullish

Settlement records the outcome of net positions; it does not label one side as informed or reveal the future intention of each participant. A high-delivery decline may reflect sellers transferring meaningful positions to buyers at lower prices. A negotiated transaction, index rebalance, corporate action, or one-off block can also affect the number.

A percentage can also mislead when the denominator is small. Ninety percent delivery on 10,000 traded shares may be less important for a liquid investor than 55% delivery on several million shares. Always read percentage, volume, value, spread, and normal liquidity together.

Combine UIN settlement with other PSX research

Use the PSX chart and volume guide to describe the trend, then check the company announcement guide for a possible catalyst. FIPI/LIPI can show which broad participant groups and sectors were net buyers or sellers, while UIN settlement shows symbol-level delivery behaviour. Company financials and valuation decide whether the underlying business supports the idea.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Treating a high-delivery label as proof of institutional accumulation.
  • Ranking only by percentage while ignoring delivery volume, value, and liquidity.
  • Comparing unrelated companies without adjusting for their normal delivery behaviour.
  • Using one day without reviewing a multi-session trend.
  • Ignoring results, dividends, rights issues, block activity, suspensions, or other events.
  • Confusing KseAlert's market screener with the investor's personal NCCPL UIS account.

Investor checklist

Record the session date, symbol, total volume, settlement volume, delivery percentage, recent average, deviation, delivered value, price change, sector flow, announcement catalyst, and liquidity. Then write the alternative explanation and the evidence that would disprove your view. UIN settlement is most beneficial when it improves the questions you ask, not when it replaces the answer.

UIN Settlement Explained: How PSX Investors Can Read Delivery Data FAQ

What is UIN settlement in PSX?

UIN settlement data shows symbol-level settlement based on investor-identity net positions within the NCCPL clearing process. It can be compared with total traded volume and value.

Is PSX delivery percentage the same as buying volume?

No. Delivery percentage compares settlement volume with traded volume. Every completed trade has a buyer and seller, and the percentage does not identify the motive or future action of either side.

Does high UIN settlement prove institutional buying?

No. High settlement can highlight meaningful participation, but it does not identify a specific institution or guarantee accumulation. Check price, volume, value, history, filings, and later sessions.

Is KseAlert UIN settlement the same as NCCPL UIS?

No. KseAlert provides aggregated market research by symbol. NCCPL UIS is the official personal system for reviewing trading, settlement, client-code, and related information associated with an investor's UIN.
